The Taurus Steakhouse regretfully announces that after 30 years it has had to cease trading. This is mainly due to the huge increase in the cost of rents, rates and various Goverment stealth taxes. Cardiff Council's recent mismanagement of St Mary Street closures and the loss of income due to St Davids 2 building works has also contributed to the demise of the Restaurant and the City Centre. The amount of new alcohol licences that the Council has handed out to new premises over the last few years in search of extra revenue from rates, has inadvertently turned the City Centre into an alcohol and drug fuelled volitile 'no go' zone after dark as bars heavily discount cheap booze in order to attract custom pushing the decent and upstanding people and visitors away from our fantastic and vibrant City Centre. We would like to thank all our loyal customers over the last three decades for supporting us and giving us some colourful moments and memories to treasure, also all the drunken Chefs and Butchers who never liked to complain but. .... Whether you like the Taurus or not, most Cardiffians will have a memory or two about the place and there have been lots of Weddings from people who came here for their first date and probally a few births because the 'out of order' condom machine! Finally to all the Staff who, contray to belief, worked hard and at times had to perform above the call of duty to deal with the minority of idiots that graced our lives.
